Reflection

Now that you know how Melody feels inside of her head despite having cerebral palsy, has your perception changed when you see a person in a wheelchair?  Explain.

  1. Personally, I have never had a thing against people in wheelchairs because some of my grandparents have been in wheelchairs and I have always tried to help them in anyway they need help.

  2. At first I would keep my distance and feel pity for that person only because I thought they couldn't think right. But now, I know they can be ten times as smart as anyone with a "normal" life. It really changes my perspective on people like Melody.

  3. I've never really had a thing about people in wheel chairs, but I think if I saw someone in a wheelchair by their self I would ask if they needed help getting around because I wouldn't be able to imagine how hard it would be to get around in a wheelchair.

  4. I used to feel bad because I thought nothing was going on inside of their head. But now that I know what's really going on, I feel different about them.

  6. It really changes my perspective . I would see them but would instantly back away because I don't know what they're thinking . Now I know that there more than that , may be smarter.

  7. My perception changed. Before, when i say people on a wheelchair I would think that they couldnt think or do anything. Now I know that they can think and they are smart in their own way.

  8. I've never had any problems with people in wheelchairs but I wouldn't speak to them because I didn't think they would understand me. Now that I know how Melody see's things I try my hardest to be nice to them in anyway I can be.

  10. Actually yes, although I don't have anything against them, this story is motivating me to talk to people on wheelchairs on my own. As in greet them or help them on opening the door or whatever.

  11. Before I was reading this book, I would not pay too much attention to them because I thought they were not as smart as us. Now that I am reading this book, I realize that they are as smart as us and now I'll change my perspective on them.

  14. I never thought anything toward people in wheelchairs. I just see them as normal people because they are normal, they just have problems in life like we have problems and we are here to help them. Melody's story just made me want to help people in wheelchairs more.

  15. After seeing how Melody thinks, I have a whole new point pf view. Now whenever i'll see someone like that, I might try to do my best to engage in a conversation with them. After reading, now I know that there is something going on in their mind.

  16. I have to be honest that whenever I saw a person in a wheelchair I never really thought they understood me clearly, but now reading about Melody I could now see that they could understand me and that just because they don't answer me back doesn't mean that they're not listening.

  17. I really never thought that someone that couldn't walk just had a deformity but now I know its something worse and when I figured it out I just would stand back and let them walk or go through but now I know that they could be way smarter than us and when I see someone like that now I help them

  18. My thoughts on people with cerebral palsy have definitely changed and now I know that they are people too, even if they can't function like one.

  19. Although I've never had anything personal against people in wheelchairs, my opinion has changed. I now see them as more human than I thought some were. I now think they deserve more respect than most people give them.
